About The Wines

Crooked Run Cellars has chosen grape varietals best suited for our region and growing site.  Our goal is to create wine that welcomes people that are new to wines, as well as holding the attention of the seasoned wine drinker. We realize that everyone's palate is  different and we will strive to make wines that range from fun to sophisticated.  Whether it's a quiet summer night on the porch or  a formal dinner party,  Crooked Run wines will be the finishing touch for either setting.

2006 2006 Petite Verdot

Historically used as a blending grape in the Bordeaux region to add deep color, spicy exoctic aromas and firm tannins.  Petite Verdot is beginning to be appreciated in it’s own starring role as a big, bold, mouth coating wine with firm tannins. Soft velvety mouth feel with hints of blueberry and coco and a finish you just can’t get enough of. Truly a wine to be savored.

2008 Traminette SOLD OUT 2010 vintage to be released in spring of 2011

This white wine hybrid is cross of Gewurztraminer and Joannes Seyve 23-416. The grape’s fairly high acidity and low pH levels harmonize with its typically fresh fruit aromas and floral-spicy flavors. Fermented in stainless steel tanks with no residual sugar, this Traminette shows off the characteristics of the grape very well. Light and lingering, with aromas of honeydew and apricot.  This wine is great for sipping on the porch or pairing with grilled vegetables, grilled white meats, and especially fruits and cheeses.  100% Traminette

2009 Chambourcin To be released May 1st

Chambourcin is a French hybrid, originally named Johannes Seyve 26-205 after its developer Joannes Seyve, was released in 1963. Seyve died, leaving no documentation of its parentage. It's a grape with a lot of color and an assertive flavor, different from other red varieties; It's not as heavy or robust as Cabernet or Merlot but not to be dismissed as a fabulous red! This is a robust wine, rich in purple color, and hearty tannins.  Especially rich in the mouth, this wine sings as it offers up flavors of black cherry, spice and an insinuation of earthiness.  Aged in French Oak.  Pair with eggplant and red meats.  100% Chambourcin.  Beware if you’re “not a red wine” drinker, you will be converted!

By the Glass: $7.00  Per Bottle: $18.00

2009 "Royal Veritas" Chambourcin To be released May 1st

This Chambourcin catches your attention from the beginning with it’s bold deep color and warm seductive aromas. After indulging in the aromas and beauty of this wine your palette will not be disappointed.  It’s rich smoky essences mingle with deep black cherry and finish with soft bold tannins that will saunter through your palette.  Truly a wine to be savored! This wine is not available for regular tastings. It will be part of the tasting line up on May 1st, but due to limited supply will not be regluarly featured.

2006 Cabernet Franc

The Cabernet Franc is a very well known French Bordeaux, one of the parent grapes to Cabernet Sauvignon (the other parent grape is Sauvignon Blanc). This is a bold red, somewhat spicy with hints of plum and violet. Often thought to take a back seat to cabernet Sauvignon, this Cab Franc  is defiantly in the drivers seat. One taste is all you will need to understand why it is being said the Cab Franc may very well be one of Virginia's signature wines. 100% Cab Franc

By the glass $7.00  Per Bottle $18.00

2006 Viognior

The most acclaimed white wine grape from France's Rhone Valley, this grapes trademark is it's heavy aromatic nature. With aroma's of   jasmine, honeysuckle and peach blossom,  this Viognior lives up to its heritage. The richness of body and flavor will deceive you into thinking it is a sweet wine. Oh to the contrary!  This wine was produced in stainless steel tanks and allowed to ferment to dry, having no residual sugar. Balanced in alcohol and acidity this Viognior represents its heritage very well. Enjoy sipping on the porch with your favorite cheese, or pair with lobster or any other shell fish. 100% Viognior

By the glass  $7.00   Per Bottle $17.00

2006 Riesling

Riesling's  homeland is Germany, where it has been cultivated since the 1400s. Considered hard to grow in Virginia because of its susceptibility to disease, this grape really needs to be pampered in the vineyard. From vineyard to bottle is truly a labor of love with this grape. One taste and you will understand why it is well worth the effort. With aromas of distinctive floral and green apple this Riesling mixes in its mineral elements from the vineyard very well to produce a racy white.  Pairs well with spicy foods such as Tai and spicy sausages.

By the glass $6.00  Per Bottle $14.00
